Support / Option to show only image files?
« Last post by drmrbrewer on Today at 12:20:35 am »

I find that thumbnails for (D800) MOV files take a while to load up in the contact sheet window, thereby delaying the display of thumbnails for NEFs.

Is there a way to filter out MOV files in this view?

Apart from the update speed issue, sometimes the thumbnail creation seems to stop altogether.  PM initially still seems to be responsive, in that I can click on things and the view updates, but when I e.g. close down the folder concerned, PM hangs for real, requiring a force close.  I'm wondering whether this has anything to do with the presence of MOV files in the folder.

Thanks,

Mike

Roberto,

Have you set Photoshop as your CR2 editor specifically or are you setting it as your default editor?

http://wiki.camerabits.com/en/index.php?title=User_Manual_Flat_View#Launching_Preferences

Use the "Assign Specific Application to File Type" ‘Set...’ button and set Photoshop as your CR2 Canon RAW editor.  Then when you have a multiple selection, right-click on one of the selected photos and choose 'Edit Photos with' and then choose Photoshop from the sub-menu.  All of the images should appear in a thumb strip in the ACR plugin where you can then bulk apply your adjustments or work on them individually.

Sorry forgot to answer that earlier. Yes, the images are displaying while the ingest is happening.

6 Gb of RAM

In Windows explorer the ingest rate doesn't change and stays around ~120 images per minute through the entire card

I would say once there are around 1000 images ingested the files are ingesting at around 40/min. After about 2000 images are ingested the files are ingesting at around 15/min.... As far as the total number we ingest it varies, but is in the thousands. Lately, I have just been pulling them in manually though (windows explorer) because after about 3000 images are ingested it's going super slow (3-4 images/min).

If you don't have PM view the images as they're ingested, does the speed still decrease?

It's really not fair to compare speed of transfer when you're forcing PM to also scan/sort/decode/display images at the same time against Windows Explorer which is only copying the images without processing any of the file metadata or displaying and sorting the images.

What sort type are you using in your contact sheets by default?

Why not try it so that every day is in chronological order with

{yr4}{mn0}{day0} = 20130101 automatically up to 20131231

Not sure how you would set it up to run from 001 to 365 though.

Thanks to you both for your thoughts.

They got me thinking more about the possible causes and I went into the Preferences and checked my cache settings (512 and 128 in case there is something wrong there) but also, despite being set up for emptying the cache on exiting PM, I tried the Empty Cache button. Maybe tempting fate but the situation seems to resolved itself.

If that doesn't work I'll try reinstalling as you suggest Hayo. Thankfully having the old version still on my system has been useful and gives me an alternative option if the same problem arises again but it has opened a couple of times when I have been expecting PM5 to open (such as when I added the "Browse with Photo Mechanic" option to the context menu after adding the latest update) so maybe there is a conflict there that is causing the problems.

Have a good weekend.

Hi,
I am new to PM and couldn't find this in any of the tutorial videos.
I want to select multiple images and open them in Photoshop camera RAW. (for color correcting)

What currently happens now:
- I have Photoshop as my selected application that opens RAW files
-When I select one image it opens camera RAW and I can color correct it fine.

But, when I select multiple images and select "Edit Selected photos" it does not show me all in camera RAW, it only opens the first one.

*** If I select multiple images in Bridge and open them in CR then it will give me a strip of images that I can color correct and even synchronize them.  That is the screen that I want to see.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks Kirk. Got that bit solved at least.

In case I haven't explained myself properly I am trying to add and actually change names and not just the case of any of the existing text.

Understood.  I was directly addressing your last concern.  I agree, something odd is going on with your system.  What needs to be done to solve that, I do not know.

In addition to Kirk's questions: Does the speed drop when using Windows explorer to copy files too?

Originally I was ingesting from a Delkin Imagerouter. After, I experienced the slow ingest issue, I purchased 4 Lexar USB 3.0 card readers and have them going to a powered USB HUB, which did not fix the problem.... If I try to ingest 1 card at a time, the first card will start the ingest fine (say ~100 images/min)  and then gradually get slower (down to ~40 images/min). Once the first card completes and I put the next card, it will start ingesting at the same rate that the first card left off (~40 images/min) and slow down more (~20 images/min) at the end and the third card will go more slowly than the second and so on until the ingest is ridiculously slow (3-4 images per minute).

How many images in total?

Are you having PM show the items in a contact sheet while the Ingest is ongoing?

Does the rest of your computer get slower?

How much RAM do you have in your system?
