« on: November 28, 2015, 11:35:06 AM »
Hello,
it's the first real problem i've got with PM. Unfortunately i've imported codereplacements into the Caption... i could delete most of it but there are two lines i can not delete.
Does anyone know how i can get rid of those two lines...???

How does one get one's captions into such a state?

When you select one of those items and click the "Delete" button, I take it that the item is not deleted?

OK.  Export only the Captions and post it here.  I'll edit it by hand and get it back to you.  You could then import it (without merging) and those unwanted items would then disappear.

Hi Kirk, here's the undeletable captino...Thx.

I need the data exported from the Preferences dialog.  Open the Preferences dialog, then click on the Export... button.  Then click the "Select none" button.  Then find the "IPTC: Caption popup" item and select only that item.  See the attached image.

Complete the export by clicking on the Export button.  Post the resulting file here.

Thanks,

-Kirk

In your last screenshot, see that button at the bottom of the Preferences dialog labeled "Export..."?  Please click on that button.  Then continue with my previous instructions.

Marc,

Import this modified file (I removed all of the garbage items)

Do not use the Merge option.

Marc,

I looked at your file and what I would give you back is the same file I gave you last time.  You're welcome to try an import it again, but if it doesn't work then I suggest resetting your preferences.  Look for the Resetting Preferences on Mac OS X post at the top of the Support message board.  If you follow those instructions, you should have clean preferences.

Hi Kirk,
that sounds complicated, I can not allow myself to crash my mac while trying to reset Preferences. I don't even find a german designation on my mac, that would match Preferences. Thank you so far for your help.

Hi Marc,

Did you try to re-import the captions like Kirk suggested, it seems the first time it didn't work?

If you want to reset your preferences, the instructions Kirk mentioned tell you what to do, but as you found out finding the Library directory can be tricky. Here's a, hopefully, simpler way:
To open the Preferences inside your Library folder, a simpler way than described in the post is to open it directly in Finder: use the Finder's “Go to Folder…” command (⇧⌘G) and then specify ~/Library/Preferences as the folder to open. You should then be able to follow the rest of the instructions to the letter.

If you're not afraid of the command-line, I can also give you the commands to type in there to do the same.

Hope this helps,
Hayo
