Importing the right files from Sony Ax, Leica SL
« on: April 23, 2016, 09:46:20 AM »
There are several irritations when using PM, which works great most of the time:

= empty folders from the date that the card was formatted are created when I import into a folder that includes the date of the captured image and a name that varies with ingest.  (I suspect that this may be a bug.)

= with the Sony, PM appears to import the database file that Sony creates, which it does each time I change the name of the shoot folder.

I can see that it is safer to ingest more, rather than less, but it's a pain to have to delete all the crud.

Please give specifics.  I need to see what files are on the card (the whole directory structure) and a screen shot of your Ingest settings, including any Code Replacement files that are used by your Ingest settings.

= with the Sony, PM appears to import the database file that Sony creates, which it does each time I change the name of the shoot folder.

Again, I need more specifics.  What is/are the name(s) of the database file(s)?

Thanks,

Hi Kirk,

The folder name on the ingest screen is:

{iptcyear4}/{iptcyear4}-{iptcmonth0}-{iptcday0} Shoot Name

For the Sony files, I suggest that you get any recent Sony A7x model (or even the RX ones, I think) format a card, take a single pic, and ingest.  You can take another pic a day later (or adjust the date in the camera).

For the Leica, the files are

Code: [Select]

The folder name on the ingest screen is:

{iptcyear4}/{iptcyear4}-{iptcmonth0}-{iptcday0} Shoot Name

I'd like to see the directory structure of the card that produced the empty folders, and I'd like to see the resulting directory structure on your destination disk.

For the Sony files, I suggest that you get any recent Sony A7x model (or even the RX ones, I think) format a card, take a single pic, and ingest.  You can take another pic a day later (or adjust the date in the camera).

We do not have any A7x models or even the RX models.  We would need a listing like you produced for the Leica camera you provided in your last post.

The directory structure of the card is set out in my previous post.

The ingest generates three folders:

Code: [Select]
2016-04-24 Shoot Name
2016-04-16 Shoot Name
2016-04-14 Shoot Name

The first of these contains the expected ingested images.  The latter two are empty.  The date prefix of these two will not change until I reformat the card.

I'll have a look at the Sony cards in due course, unless you have managed to rent a body in the meantime.

Don't these files end up in the "2016-04-16 Shoot Name" directory and not in the "2016-04-24 Shoot Name" directory?

The earlier dated files were from an earlier shoot which i imported at the time.  I have selected don't import duplicates, so they don't get imported again.

Would it be possible to have you zip up the contents of your card (remove all but one image) and provide it for us?  We could then unzip the file onto a camera card for our testing.

Thanks,

Hi Kirk:

Here's what's on a brand new card formatted by the Sony A7r II after taking a picture. (Screenshot attached.) Whenever I do an ingest I get some files I don't want, such as: STATUS.BIN, INDEX.BDM, and MOVIEOBJ.BDM.

For some reason, I only see one of the three files in the attached listing.
