Possible bug? Persons variable in file name
« on: October 14, 2016, 11:42:56 AM »
Hey all,

I've struggled with doing this since jumping onto PM years ago.  Not sure if it's a bug but I sure can't figure it out.  Should be dead simple.

I do my selects, tag them and apply a IPTC Stationery pad to them all.  For delivery, I want to do a rename of the files and convert to jpg.  In the filename I want to have:  (person in photo) (event) (photographer name) (date).

All this goes well except for the person.  PM NEVER applies this properly.  I can put the same data in another field and it works perfectly.  I can use the persons variable and it shows up just fine on the contact sheet. But I can never get it to work for the filename.

Any suggestions on how to make this work?

Thanks

Sounds like it is a bug, possibly.  What is the actual renaming string?

What version/build of Photo Mechanic are you using?

{persons}-{event}-{photog}-{iptcyear4}

I had an old version but just updated to the latest code last night to see if the behavior had changed.  It has not.  Basically, all this works except the {persons} position is just blank.

Can you list the entire workflow that produces the problem?

Thanks,

-Kirk

Headed out to shoot now, but will update tonight.  Thanks for looking at this.

Looking at this further tonight, and I don't believe its a bug.  I think it was user error.  I am going to try my normal deadline workflow tomorrow after my shoot to see if I've got this sorted.  I believe the issue was with applying the stationery pad on export (save as or email) and having the "Persons" field blank but checked.

Thanks for your prompt attention and hopefully it's just me!
