organizing photos by capture time
« on: October 17, 2016, 08:15:22 PM »
I'm running PM version 5, build 17671, on an Intel-based iMac, running OSX Yosemite, version 10.10.5.

I often use two or more cameras when photographing a wedding.  The clocks in the cameras are synchronized.

After ingesting all the images from all the memory cards into a PM contact sheet, I'd like to rearrange them so they appear in the order of the time they were captured.  Where is the command to do this?

Thanks...  - Rob in Oregon

That's easy: select “Capture Time” from the sort type drop down in the tool bar (make sure that it is visible, check the View menu).

Note: be aware that sorting this way may take some time as all your images need to be analysed for the sorting to work. (this is one of the reasons I rename my files at ingest to have the full date and time in a sortable fashion)

I wouldn't recommend making this change.  It will cause every contact sheet you access to take a significant amount of time to open and become available for use.  It's easy enough to change the sort popup when you need Capture Time sorting.

The default is to sort by filename.
