second PM Icon in Dock
« on: December 31, 2016, 01:42:32 AM »
Since the last version Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 18040 (9e75cf5). Each time I open PM, I have a new PM Icon in the Apple Dock.
Delete, restart and re-newing the App-Icon in the Dock did not help. Nothing serious but a feedback from the front.

PM has no control over what the Dock does.  Do you have multiple copies of PM on your system?

Resetting your Dock may help: http://www.imore.com/os-x-power-tips-resetting-your-dock-its-default

Only 1 version is installed. The Reset didn't help.

Weird :o

Try these steps:
1. Remove the PM icon from the Dock
2. Open PM, icon should be in dock
3. Quit PM, icon should no longer be in dock
4. Open PM
5. Right click PM icon in dock, select options, Keep in Dock (or move the icon in the dock, that will auto-enable this option)

Hope this helps,
Hayo

Thank you for your suggestions, but no luck on this too.

This is weird. Sounds like your system has some weird corruption.

What happens when you quit PM, does the second icon disappear?
I wonder, are you perhaps not quitting PM but e.g. minimising it? (in that case if you have set your Dock Preferences to not gather windows with the application icon, you will get additional icons (on the far right of the dock) for each window.

If you really get two PM icons at the left side of the Dock, can you tell me what happens when you right click the icons and then choose Show in Finder from the options fly-out menu?

Another test:

1. Remove the PM icon from the Dock
2. Open PM,  one PM icon should be in dock
3. Quit PM, icon should no longer be in dock
4. Open PM, one PM icon should be in Dock
5. Quit PM, icon should no longer be in dock

Does the PM icon show anywhere it shouldn't?

Hi Hayo

The Icon on the right disappear, when quitting PM. If I move an imagefolder to the left icon, the right icon opens again.

The second test you mentioned does work.

I have the same effect on an 5K iMac, 2011 MacbookPro and on a 2016 MBP. Since the last PM update.

Can you perform the show in finder action for both PM icons like I described?

Also, how do you start PM? Do you click the icon or do you use another method?

Both icons do show the finder action.

I start with moving a folder to the icon in the dock. But it works with mouse, right click, services, browse with photomechanic as well.

Both icons do show the finder action.

But what is the result of performing the Show in Finder action on each of the two dock icons?

Do you backup to an external hard drive? It's possible the Finder is mistakenly launching PM from this backup rather than the one on your internal drive?

However, the result of the 'Show in Finder' may help us determine what is happening.

Just for the sake of clarity...

Hi Tony

It looks like this attached screenshot. It goes to my PM app folder.

And yes, I do backup on a NAS.

I, too, am having an issue with the new build of Photo Mechanic, and the dock. Photo Mechanic appears in the dock when open. If I opt to keep it in the dock, and move the icon next to my other photo applications, the icon disappears when I quit Photo Mechanic. This is a brand new issue that just started with the most recent upgrade of Photo Mechanic. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
