New forum layout
« on: March 29, 2017, 02:48:34 PM »
I struggled all morning with the new layout and finally gave up set my prefences to the old one.

1. It's more work to get to where you want to go with the new on
2. The summary information available in the old one made it easy to decide whether to read more or not
3. The new layout seems like to return to the days of DOS where everything was text based

Thanks for the feedback.  I hope we are able to continue to adjust the theme in response to these issues.  I appreciate your response.

Same response, I detest this new page, not clear, not practice.
Please, return to the old manner !

The new forum layout is missing the latest post info for each category that I find very helpful.  The new format should carry this capability forward. HTH

I will agree with all the previous post, the new site to me seem to be to cluttered.

You should be able to change the skin to the old skin under your own account's preferences .  Go to Profile > Forum Profile > Look and Layout  and set current theme to "SMF Default Theme - Curve"

Thank you for the feedback!

I went back to then old style, very clean and efficient. My default view is set to show unread posts since last visit.
Much easier to work with than the new format.

I'm with the others: old is better. I regularly use the "Show unread posts since last visit" and couldn't find it in the new layout.

I confess my initial reaction to the new theme was to cringe and almost immediately switch back to the old familiar one (thanks for keeping this as an option).

This was a bit unfair so here are my initial reactions based on a just a few minutes of looking around (I'm sticking with the original theme - sorry!)

In no particular order...

- Too white:
A darker theme (or an alternative) would be good as I find it a little too bright to comfortably read in a darkened room.

- Pages:
B for 'Go Down' & T for 'Go Up' - I assume 'Bottom' & 'Top'? It wasn't immediately obvious to me (I may be a tad stupid tho' :) ) so very probably even less obvious for people where English isn't their native language, maybe arrow symbols instead?

- Actions are confusing now they're simply text and not buttons:
They need either more space or maybe vertical lines between the different actions (especially at top of page, it's slightly better at bottom), eg...
REPLY NOTIFY MARK UNREAD SEND THIS TOPIC PRINT
is less clear than something like...
REPLY | NOTIFY | MARK UNREAD | SEND THIS TOPIC | PRINT

- Bold text in the subject list instinctively means 'unread' to me, personally prefer this method to using stars.

- Miss the 'New' badge which takes me straight to the first unread message of that thread.

Apologies if my reticence to give the new theme a decent try out means I've missed hidden features (or obvious ones), but it's a low volume forum and consequently it takes only a few minutes to read and keep up with the forum (I'm a frequent visitor).

However, the forum is a fantastic resource and many thanks to all who contribute.

I switched to the old version, simply because I wasn't able to find the "Show unread posts since last visit." link/button.
That's my entry point to the forum because I read it thoroughly.
Without that link/button, I have to browse every sub-forum.
Please enable it so I can switch to the new version.
Thanks!

I think they're going to do a lot more work to it and then they'll make it the default again.

We've changed the default back to the old "Curve" skin.  Much apologies.
