"Edit all the selected photos" not working properly
« on: August 27, 2017, 05:52:26 AM »
Hello,

Since last week I found that selecting several images, pressing CTRL+E, then YES to open all the selected photos is not working properly.

For example, I select 30 images. Press CTRL+E and it opens 1, 16 or any number. Sometimes all them.

Is it a PM problem or not?

I'm using Photoshop CC to edit. The images are opened with Camera Raw.

Please any help.

Thanks!

Another thing that is happening together with this issue is:

Several images, I press ALT+3 to colour them and nothing happens.

From the menu option it does good but not from thw keystroke.

Thanks!

Weird, I use these features all the time and have not had any trouble. I frequently open large numbers of photos in camera raw so it should definitely work...

What's your OS?

Another detail I could mention is that this is happening since working mixing jpg and cr2 files.
Usually, I don't mix them (only cr2) but the last two jobs I had to.
With Photoshop closed, CTRL+E launch it, splash screen and it works.
When I do it again with PS already open, I the issue repeats.
I've already tried turning off applications, notebook, and so on.
Now it's working. In fact, I'm in a middle of edition job because of a car race.
Thanks!

Ah, do you perhaps still have camera raw opened when you try? If that's the case, then it sure won't work; Photoshop will not open the additional files in camera raw. You'll first need to finish your current edits in camera raw and close it before you can open new files in it.

No no Hayo, I know that.
There's no way to send more edits to an open Camera Raw batch.

I only send more images to edit when CR closes.

Thanks!

OK, just checking :)

Anyway, I tried to reproduce your problem but I couldn't. Could it be a problem with your Photoshop installation? What happens if you drop the selected images on the Photoshop application?

Note: Photoshop will not open a mix of raw and non raw images.

Yeah, I have the same problem on Windows 10.  If I select say 20 RAW file images and right click on say image 5 or 8 or 19, when the images appear in Lightroom, only the one image I clicked on will be available to import.
If I select the the images and drag and drop it works fine.

On my Mac everything works fine.

Lightroom on Windows does not work well as an editor via PM.  It doesn't respond to events for opening documents correctly.  Drag and drop with Lightroom (on Windows) is the only solution.  The original poster was talking about a problem with Photoshop, which in general does handle opening documents correctly.

Okay thanks Kirk.  Drag and drop works fine.  Hopefully the problem won't last too long as I want to get a mac Book.  ;D

Note: Photoshop will not open a mix of raw and non raw images.

I still can't open a mix of files. Sometimes I get jpg with cr2, and the last jobs were nef and cr2
The only workaround is all isolating jpg, cr2, and nef.

Thanks!

That is correct and it’s just how photoshop/camera raw works; if you provide a mix of file types, some will open but not all. For fun: if you’re quick enough to close the camera raw dialogue you’ll see the next set of images open (in camera raw). This both when opening images from PM and when using the Finder to drop them onto the Photoshop application. So it’s clear the behaviour is purely an Adobe issue, not a PM issue!

I want to update this:
Adobe Bridge allows opening mixed file types.
Currently, I'm working with cr2 and nef files. Bridge opens both of them with no problem.
Photo Mechanic is not working that way.
One at the time. Jpg, Nef, or Cr2.
Will this change in the future CameraBits??

It's up to Adobe to fix the issue, Fabian.  Adobe Bridge is able to communicate directly with Photoshop.  We only have the ability to ask the system to launch an app with a list of files.  It's up to the launched app (in this case Photoshop) to react properly and open all of the files sent to it.
