Ingest not recognising CF Card using High Sierra
« on: September 28, 2017, 11:04:05 PM »
Since the upgrade to High Sierra the Ingest process is not identifying that a CF card has been inserted into the card reader whereas the Lightroom import process does. I am using an MBP with 1TB Flash Drive that has been changed to APFS.

I saw this problem on a MacBook of a colleague photographer, in his case for some stupid reason the 'primary ingest location' was changed to his cf card after updating to High Sierra. So he was ingesting the photos from his cf card to his cf card. After he changed the primary ingest location to the import folder on his computer the cf card became visible again. Probably not the issue in your case, but you could check this anyway.

cheers,
Lars

What kind of reader are you using?  What drive letter does it get assigned?

sd card reader built into laptop. Drive letter is G now, although I did change the auto assigned derive letter to try to fix the issue.

So my workflow to this stage is

1. Start laptop
2. Insert card into card reader on laptop
3. PM starts and auto ingests the rated images
4. Card is unmounted and I remove to take more photos
5. I insert card second time and Windows beeps that it has been detected, PM screen comes to the front, but doesn’t auto ingest.
6. I need to select the card in the ingest window and then click Ingest

To date, I have assigned a new drive letter to reading in the card, re-installed PM and reset all the auto import functions.

I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Windows Explorer window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thanks.  Do you have any dialog windows open including the Ingest dialog at the time that you insert the new card?

This only happened to me after the latest Windows updates.

To help you further, today I purchased an external usb3 card reader. Imports work perfect on it, but when I switch back to the internal laptop card reader, the issue remains. So to me it looks like windows have changed how they recognise the built in card reader on laptops.

So, for now I can use the external card reader, but I think it should be examined why the internal card readers are no longer treated the same way.

I still encourage you to work with our support folks to troubleshoot the problem.  Going back and forth on the forums will take a long time to achieve the same thing.

Perhaps you need an updated driver for your internal card reader?

been logged to support team since last week, but they couldn't find solution, so posted on the forum in case a member had seen it before.

Since then the support guys have re-created the issue on their test laptops :)

I would suggest seeing if there is a BIOS update for your laptop.  Some bug fixes have caused problems with usb ports that have been fixed with bios updates.
