Error message on updating to PM5 build R18980

Hi

I am running Photo Mechanic version 5, build R18895 on Windows 8.1x64.

I've tried to update to build R18980 but get an error message (see attached).  I've tried to reinstall build R18895 but get the same message.  When I try and run PM5 I get the second error message, also attached.

I'm therefore unable to use PM5 so any suggestions would be most welcome!!

Hello,

Try restarting your computer then right-click on PM5SetupRxxxxx.exe and choose Run As Administrator. Let us know if that doesn't work

Hi Mick,

I've tried that with no luck.  I've also tried uninstalling the program via the Control Panel and then re-installing it as the Administrator and the 1st of the attechments come up and if you click  'Ignore' and try and run the program as the Administrator I keep getting the message in the 2nd attachment.

The best thing at this point is to call our Technical support folks on the phone for some troubleshooting

I'm based in the UK so a phone call isn't the the most practical solution for me.

Hi Dave,

I recommend that you try manually deleting the 'Photo Mechanic 5' installation directory with Windows Explorer before running the installer again as admin. If the delete operation fails then you will need to resolve the permissions problem before the new installation will succeed.

If you're comfortable using the Command Prompt, you can run the Command Prompt as admin then use the command below to take ownership of the Camera Bits directory

Code: [Select]
takeown /r /f "C:\Program Files (x86)\Camera Bits"
Then run Photo Mechanic's installer again, as admin, once you've taken ownership of the installation directory.

Tried that and it didn't work.  Decided to leave it for a few days.  Ran the installer again today and it worked!! So I'm back up and running. Haven't done anything else so don't know why it worked today and didn't a few days ago.
