Problem working with images on a USB flash memory stick
« on: January 30, 2019, 06:04:02 PM »
I am using Photo Mechanic version 5.0.0.0 build 19728 on Windows 10 Pro version 1803 build 17134.523.

I am seeing what appear to be hangs on Photo Mechanic when I edit files.

Because of limited space on the system drive on my laptop I am working with a directory on a USB stick which contains 8215 files.   When I edit a a file and create an edited copy, photo mechanic appears to hang.   I find terminating photo mechanic and restarting it is faster than waiting for it.   I suspect it is somehow trying to rescan for new images.

Is there some way for me to configure photo mechanic to work better in this situation?

Thanks, Walt

There is no configuration that eliminates the rescan that occurs when you resume PM having previously switched out to another application (such as your editor).

Is the USB thumb drive really slow?  Are all 8 thousand files in a single directory?  What sort method are you using for your contact sheets?
