I was previously using a large screen 10-bit deep color 4K TV for my monitor, 2013 Mac Pro, using a TB2 to HDMI 2.0 converter at 30 Hz. Let's call this "original TV"

Yesterday I upgraded to a 10-bit 4K monitor, which has a regular display port plugin in the back. So I'm using it with the usual mini displayPort to regular displayPort cable, which is supporting 10-bit deep color 4K at 60 Hz. Let's call this "new monitor."

PM5 with original TV: several months ago, the display latency between previewing two images using the right/left arrow keys was about 1/10th to 1/4th of a second. Almost unnoticeable delay.

PM6 with original TV: latency increased to 1/3rd to 1/2 of a second between images. At first this was unusable, and I kept rating the wrong images since the display and PM's "brain" were out of sync. However, I've adjusted and it's not an issue anymore. 64-bit support is worth the lower speed.

Now, here's the problem:

PM6 with new monitor: latency is now 1-2 seconds between images, usually about 1.5 seconds. It's like molasses.

The only difference between the original TV and the new monitor is that the new monitor is using display port at 60 Hz rather than HDMI 2.0 at 30 Hz. Color depth and resolution are both identical.

I would expect that the faster display port cable and refresh rate would only make the display latency faster.

Why is PM6 suddenly slower, and not just by a little, but by a lot?? I have about 8,000 photos to cull today, so if there is a simple solution, I would love to hear it. Thank you.

Update: out of desperation I changed the display resolution to 1080P.

This doesn't help at all. No matter what I do PM6 is glacially slow now.

I thought this was a display issue. Could it be a PM6 issue instead?

Has something changed in a recent update?

Those tips helped a lot. Thank you so much.

I had to turn back on the the option "Synchronize single selection between Preview and Contact Sheet" because I need that to keep track of where I am in a huge folder of over a thousand photos, but even the other three optimizations really helped. It is now back to usable speed again.

I'm not sure why this problem only showed up with the new monitor, though. That's what's confusing. No PM settings were changed by me between the old monitor and new monitor.

Although there was a PM update recently. Maybe a setting was reset to default somehow.

The new version is faster because it contains a work-around for the slowing down behaviour you noticed. The slowing down only affects very high resolution/colour depth screens.
