PM6 runs slowly
« on: June 11, 2019, 11:32:19 AM »
PMS runs very slow. When I hold down the arrow key, the contact sheet chugs along at about 1 frame a second.

Model Name:   MacBook Pro
  Model Identifier:   MacBookPro14,2
  Processor Name:   Intel Core i7
  Processor Speed:   3.5 GHz
  Number of Processors:   1
  Total Number of Cores:   2
L2 Cache (per Core):   256 KB
  L3 Cache:   4 MB
  Hyper-Threading Technology:   Enabled
  Memory:   16 GB
  Boot ROM Version:   194.0.0.0.0
  SMC Version (system):   2.44f1
  Serial Number (system):   C02VH08YJ9JH
  Hardware UUID:   31103628-9637-594E-9F0C-F49CB5

Spoke to some one at Camera Bits last week and was told that this was at the top of the list for the engineers. Any idea how long ot might be before there os a fix?

No estimate at this time.  We've been making improvements for more than a month already.  There are settings changes that you can make to improve things.  See the other threads reporting this issue for details.

Hi Kirk:

I've been looking for the threads that discuss settings changes to make PM6 more bearable in terms of speed. I haven't had much success. Can you offer any tips on speeding PM6 up a bit or direct me to a few of those threads?

Thank you so much.

First, make sure you're on the very latest build of PM6.

After that, some have found that setting their display to sRGB profile helps.

Thank you Kirk for responding so quickly.

That change to Preview preferences seems to have helped a lot.

Good day...

Yes.  PM6 runs very slowly. When I hold down the arrow key, the contact sheet chugs along at about 1 frame a second. All my info is listed in my post when I started this thread.

And you're on the latest build?  Version 6.0 (build 3331)

Should also note that I changed preferences as suggested. Any ideas? Killing my workflow.

Sorry but I am finding that 6 is generally a lot slower than 5! AND I am using the same Intel x64 laptop that I used with 5!

I can confirm that, I see it also together with the crop tool that I have to wait a few seconds before I could use the tool. Also I see that browsing through the files is also slower than with PM 5.

Same here...I did some tests with one of the early versions, I had friends (with high-end video cards, it turned out) raving about how much faster it was than PM5.  I timed some tasks on my machine in both, PM6 was the same or even a little slower on my machine (Xeon E5-2630, 16GB RAM and Radeon R9 280 2BG).  I know my hardware is not bleeding edge but it's no dog...and with promised performance increase being the only reason I upgraded, I'm disappointed to say the least.  Do you need a high-end video card to take advantage of the faster performance?
