Rename Folder on Tabs
« on: August 09, 2019, 12:05:30 AM »
Let me Rename Folder from the Tabs contextual menu item (attachment).

Renaming is possible from the left panel Navigator but it's not as convenient as Renaming from the tabs. Currently getting to the folder in Navigator and Renaming there is just too many extra steps in this multi-step process:

 1) click 2nd mouse button to reveal contextual menu for the tab
 2) hover over Reveal in Navigator
 3) hover over folder name
 4) click 2nd mouse button to reveal contextual menu
 5) hover over Rename

 1) click 2nd mouse button to reveal contextual menu, while having the mouse cursor on the tab title
 2) hover over Reveal in Navigator
 3) hover over folder name
 4) click the folder name
 5) move mouse cursor over to the left panel Navigator and find the folder to put the mouse cursor over it
 6) click 2nd mouse button to reveal contextual menu
 7) hover over Rename
 8) click Rename

This could be just two three:

 1) click 2nd mouse button to reveal contextual menu, while having the mouse cursor on the tab title
 2) hover over Rename
 3) click Rename

Thanks for listening!

EDIT: More precise steps

I want to give this Feature Request a bump.

I often want to rename a contact sheet folder.  At least a few times a day.
Currently, I use these steps
1) Right-click an image in the contact sheet.
2) Reveal in Finder
3) Right Click the Folder name in Finder
4) Choose the folder one lower in the folder tree
5) Search around for my folder in that folder
6) Rename it

----

A two-click solution would be very nice.  Right-clicking on the tab is a good solution.

Selecting the tab and pressing enter (the same movement for renaming an image and in MacOS Finder) would be more elegant.

----

I feel this is one of those features that no one realizes is missing because we are adaptable, and nature finds a way.  But when you map out the number of clicks we do to get around it, it would be so nice if it existed.
Just another Boston based photographer doing the photojournalism and commercial photography thing.

A contact sheet tab can be a single folder but it can also be multiple folders.  The feature as described can't work correctly for all cases.

The Reveal in Finder submenu that appears when you right-click on a tab can be used to make the Finder show the folder itself.  Hit enter and it should start the rename.  Make your changes and press enter.  Done.
