Jed,

If you scroll the Keywords in Photo Mechanic Plus down to the WHAT and WHERE entries, are they hierarchical? Your screen shots are only showing keywords in Photo Mechanic Plus at the top of the list.

Yes, it does. Now how do I get rid of all the non-hierarchical keywords? is it possible? Any idea of how this happened. Most were done in Lr, some in Capture One and some in PhotoMechanic

You'd have to eliminate them from your images. The Catalog will then update to reflect the changes you made to your images.

Yes. You can edit the metadata including keywords of any image by using the Metadata Info dialog or the Find and Replace panel.

There is no automated way to remove a given keyword from the Catalog and have it batch process all of the images containing that keyword.

Is there any update where that will be available? When I go into Lightroom, there is no individual keywords to eliminate. I will try to rebuild the catalog to see if that works.

It will result in the same state. From your sample file, here are the hierarchical keywords:

   <lr:hierarchicalSubject>
    <rdf:Bag>
     <rdf:li>WHAT|Light|city lights</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>WHAT|Light|light</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>WHAT|Light|night</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>WHAT|Structures & Architecture|skyline</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>WHAT|Structures & Architecture|skyscrapers</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>WHAT|Structures & Architecture|street</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>WHERE|NORTH AMERICA|United States|New York State|new york city|manhattan</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>WHERE|NORTH AMERICA|United States|New York State|new york city|manhattan|42 street</rdf:li>
    </rdf:Bag>
   </lr:hierarchicalSubject>

And here are the flat keywords:

    <rdf:Bag>
     <rdf:li>42 street</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>Light</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>NORTH AMERICA</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>New York State</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>Structures & Architecture</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>United States</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>WHAT</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>WHERE</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>city lights</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>light</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>manhattan</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>new york city</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>night</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>skyline</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>skyscrapers</rdf:li>
     <rdf:li>street</rdf:li>
    </rdf:Bag>

You have duplicates and will always have duplicates as long as the metadata is in this state, but there's nothing wrong with that. Lightroom must filter out the flat keywords if they exist in hierarchical keyword paths. PMPlus does not. Having keywords in both places is advantageous when publishing or sharing your images. Not all software/websites recognize hierarchical keywords.

Metadata standards call for apps to put the hierarchical keywords (flattened) into the standard Keywords field.

May I ask why this concerns you?

Hi Kirk,

Is there a way to place the hierarchical categories at the top of the list of keywords instead of alphabetical order.

Thanks

Jed
