Speed problem
« on: February 26, 2020, 02:34:11 PM »
I am running Photo Mechanic version Version 6.0, build 4155 (e068498) and I run Mac OS X 10.14.5 (18F132) on my Intel-based Mac.
When I open a thumbnail catalogue that I haven't used for a little while, say a week or so, PM spends a LONG time Gathering Sort Info. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes or longer.
Is there any way I can speed this up?
TIA
Graeme

What sort method do you use by default?  Filename and Modification Time sorts are the fastest, the rest are much slower.  The speed of obtaining sort information is limited by the speed of the disk containing the images.

Hi Kirk – thanks for getting back to me.
I sort by Modification Time - Reversed, so as to show the newest files at the top of the page.
The files are on an external 4TB StarTech mirrored RAID drive.

I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Hi Kirk

Attached is the Zipped log file, as requested.

I didn't see anything particularly obvious going on in your log that would explain slow sort times.  If you'd like interactive troubleshooting, I suggest contacting our support folks at:
