Strange behaviour of dialog boxes on HiDPI screen
« on: March 04, 2020, 06:18:27 PM »
I am using a laptop with windows 10 UHD screen and build 4356 of PM+

The first time a dialog box is opened it opens tiny as if I was on a FHD screen.  If you click on the dialog box or move it, then it appears larger and correct for a HiDPI screen.

A second thing: I opened the Manage Catalogs dialog and it was small. I moved it and it became larger (as expected).  Then every time I checked or unchecked a tick box next to a catalog the dialog box moved position and even moved onto my external screen which is a FHD screen. After about 5 different clicks the dialog box disappeared altogether. I restarted PM+ and it was still missing. Eventually I used the Windows-arrow keys to get it back (used to move windows around multiple screens).  While it was missing it stilled showed as an active process in the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen along with PM+'s main window.  I minimised all windows to see if it was hiding but it was nowhere to be found!

Not user if this is happening with all dialog boxes but a few do start small.

Now I cannot get the dialog back at all, it does appear every now-and-again but then moves away off screen all by itself!  This was while I was scanning a folder to a catalog.

Once the scan completed I was able to catch the Manage Catalogs dialog and move and resize to my screen.  Clicking the check boxes continued to move the dialog around my two screens.

Does this only happen with Catalog-related windows?  Or with other windows like the Metadata (IPTC) Info dialog?

As far as I can remember it only seems to be catalog related windows.

I will update if I find any non-catalog related windows so assume it is just catalog windows.

The issue with the Manage Catalogs dialog is so bad that it is almost unusable.  It keeps moving off the screen and almost impossible to catch, it is almost like a game where the window runs away from the cursor.

A quick fix would be appreciated.

We've added the bug to our bug tracking system but we're deep in the middle of other changes that have to be completed before we can release another build.

Keith,

What DPI setting are you using on your monitor?  We're finding that if the DPI scaling is below 200% then things are fine.

Thanks,

Hi Kirk,

my "Scale and layout" setting is 225% for my display resolution of 3840 x 2160.

As I am working on a 13" laptop with a 4K screen it is necessary to have a scaling this large due to the physically small screen where text is really small.  Without this scaling factor it is difficult to read some text.

I tested this with a scaling factor of 200% and there is still an issue, but at 175% there is no issue except it is VERY hard on the eyes to read anything.

So, my scaling factor is required for me to comfortably read the screen.

The Manage Catalogs dialog box is the only dialog box that exhibits this strange behaviour so I am guessing you can fix the problem  ;)

Many thanks  :)
