Can't color code ERROR
« on: April 06, 2020, 09:44:58 AM »
Hi,

I'm unable to color code files from a Sony a9 SD card, getting the attached error.
'Unable to create XMP sidecar......'. I'm having to import whole cards at a time which is a nightmare when sending fast. Any ideas? Not having same issue with my Canon files.

thanks

Did you check your permissions?  Is your disk full?

If you only want to copy some images from your card and ignore others, you can browse the card and instead of editing directly on the card (which we do not recommend at all!) you can select the images and use Ingest from Selection instead of Ingesting the entire card.

Card isn’t full / where can I check permissions ? I always color code the card and then ingest my selects to a folder and then edit. Never on the card

There's a button in the dialog in the screenshot you posted that lets you "Edit Permissions..."

I always color code the card and then ingest my selects to a folder and then edit. Never on the card

That by definition is "editing on the card".  You're modifying your only copy of your images.  If they're damaged then you will be unlikely to recover.

Without being able to color code / tag there is no quick way of selecting images off a card? It's worked fine for me for however many years until now... when I click edit permissions it says READ ONLY with no option to change

Is the card itself write-protected?

Do you know how I can check? I'm wondering if something has changed it in the Sony file systems ? Anything I try PM side isn't working. Thanks!

I'm talking about the physical write-protect tab that is available on some card types.  If yours doesn't have one then that won't be the problem.

I don't think so.  Are you experiencing this problem?
