I have a issue with my updated PhotoMechanic. I use it to add IPTC information, in particular the description field. I then upload the image to my websites and the websites can read the IPTC description field and add the description to the my website.  Unfortunately this has suddenly stopped working on my my main website.

I assumed this was a problem with my website software ( Piwigo) but after a post on the piwigo forum (  https://piwigo.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=176766#p176766  ) there is the suggestion that the error is caused by :

"Incorrect APP1 Exif Identifier Code

IPTC is in APP13

in your photo no APP13"

Unfortunately I know nothing about Identifier Codes. Is this a photo mechanic problem and can it be fixed?

The problem only started this week, probably after an update. I still have another copy of photo mechanic on another pc and that does not exhibit the same problem. Images prepared with the non updated photo mechanic can be uploaded and have their descriptions read by my online gallery.  When using online meta data viewers to compare the meta data in images prepared with updated photomechanic ( Version 6.0 , build 4538 (51e5663) to non updated photomechanic ( Version 6.0 build 4484 (5fe7e-4b)I can see a difference. Here are 2 images-

Same viewed on an online exif viewer-

And here is one produced today using my non updated photomechanic-

Is this a problem that can be fixed or is it a new way of handling meta data that I must learn to work with?

I should say my other website is not affected by this problem, its only my piwigo installation which is affected.

Check the IPTC/XMP settings.  Compare the settings between the problem computer and the one without problems.  I think you'll find that on the problem computer you don't have it set to "Add embedded IPTC" on your JPEG, TIFF, PSD, DNG photos.  That's why the IPTC metadata isn't present.

Hi, thanks for that tip, that was exactly what it was. I had no idea that control even existed and I have no idea how it got unticked but that was the problem.

For anyone reading this later with the same problem, it was under preferences > IPTC/XMP

I also suggest that you check for an updated "piwigo" that works with XMP.  IPTC was deprecated a number of years ago and support for it is decreasing (we're keeping it around indefinitely, but I can't speak for other tool sets.)
