New line in the text body in Email
« on: January 28, 2021, 03:38:42 PM »
Hey,

Just a quick question... I have been looking at the 'Email' function. I have set it up and the body of text has a number of paragraphs spaced by new lines.  when i click ok and email pops up in Outlook... all the line spaces have gone and its one big paragraph.  Is there a special way to create a new line ? ( i have tried {nl} but that didn't seem to work either!

What i want it to look like....

Please find attached photographs from todays A Game league between Team FC vs TeamB FC.

If you have any enquiries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Tommy,

Thanks for the additional information.  I looked at the code and we are doing line ending conversion for Outlook.  Microsoft may have changed what line ending characters that they use to represent a new line from what they used in the past.  We're converting line feed characters to carriage return characters.  I bet they now want line feeds instead of carriage returns.  So we could stop doing that conversion and that may solve the problem.

Would you be willing to try a test build that I provide you?

Thanks,

-Kirk

It would hardly surprise anyone that MS changes and breaks things. On the other hand, Outlook has an appetite for end of line marks:

Thanks Odd S,

Unfortunately, i couldn't find the 'options' in outlook listed in your link (i have 365). I have gone through everything to try and find where it is but to no avail.

Hmm, 365 desktop or web may perhaps make a difference: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/General-Power-Automate/Flow-Approval-Email-has-no-line-breaks-in-Outlook/td-p/319718

I wonder if
1) PM strips off line breaks before sending
2) Outlook strips off line breaks (physically removes them from the message)
3) Outlook skips (doesn't show) line breaks that do exist in the message

Can you view a message using some other mail reader?
Can Outlook do "save message as text"? A saved message may potentially have line breaks intact.

Just a quick reply... will look into it a bit more tomorrow...

but when i change it the send in 'Mail'... the line breaks are there... so i think it is definitely a outlook thing.

will play around tomorrow

thanks

I sent a build to Tommy that does no line end conversion and they're still getting stripped so it appears to be a problem with Outlook itself that cannot be overcome on our end.
