« on: April 24, 2007, 09:40:25 AM »
Hello All,
I have searched and can't seem to find out what the check box for "subsample chroma" does. Huh
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jonathan Z.

Hello Jonathan,

chroma subsampling is a color compression method.

Peter Berger writes in http://www.eostemplate.com/eos/photomechanic.html:

"Subsampling Chroma is an usual compression method to reduce file sizes. In Photo Mechanic you should always check Subsample Chroma because there is no visible loss of quality and the image files are about 20% smaller."

Johannes

OTOH, I don't think it is good to subsample chroma, because you _do_ loose colour quality. Especially if you (or newspaper picturedesk) do some edits
