PM6 crashing
« on: April 09, 2021, 02:39:59 PM »
Hello,

I’ve started having a problem with PM6 crashing seemingly randomly after being open for a short period. I’ve no idea what’s causing it but once I’ve used Force Quit to close the app and try to reopen it the icon will bounce in the dock for a while and then not open.

The only way I can reopen the app is to restart the computer. I can't reliably replicate it but it's happened at least 7-10 times over the last few days.

Photo Mechanic Version 6.0, build 5560 (6e1b8a6)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
Processor: 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
Memory: 16 GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4X
Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB
Storage - around 70gb available

Are you filing crash reports (Bug Splat) ?

I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

I'm not sure how to do this.

I don't see an option to file one when PM6 crashes - is that when I should expect to see the dialogue to submit one?

The BugSplat dialog should come up the next time you run PM6 after a previous session crashed.

I'm seeing an option to report the crash to Apple but not a BugSplat dialog...

Once I get a crash like this the app just bounces in the dock. It won't seem to run again unless I reboot.

Have you sent BugSplat crash reports?

Are you able to reproduce the crash with any consistency? What actions can you take to reproduce the crash?

You've set your cache values to be significantly higher than any of them need to be. I don't know if that is the cause of the crash, but set the values as follows in Photo Mechanic's caching preferences:

Memory cache slider: 10%
Disk Cache: 2000
Reserve at least: 500
