Variable for Canon shutter modes?
« on: June 14, 2021, 04:02:53 PM »
My Canon R5 has 3 shutter modes: Electronic, Electronic first curtain, and mechanical. I don't see an info variable for this. Is there one? If not can I make a request that this be added?

If you can send us 3 JPEG test photos with each shutter mode then we can investigate.

I assume this info is in the maker note, not standard Exif.  Have you tried using Exiftool to see what it shows?  I'm looking at their site and I don't see any mention of shutter modes but maybe I missed it.  If Phil hasn't discovered this yet then it may not be easy/possible for PM to display this either.

Dennis, thanks for looking into this! I don't see the information on the Exif Tool Canon Tags page either. Maybe you can find it in the Jpegs. I've uploaded a screen shot showing the setting in the Menu and 3 small Jpegs. They are labeled 1). Mechanical 2) Electronic 1st Curtain and 3). Electronic.
Best,
Ric

Thanks for the samples - I'll take a peek later today and see if I can tell where it's hidden...

Latest version of Exiftool only indicates:

Shutter Curtain Sync: 1st-curtain sync

I would expect the info to be store in the Maker note.  Either Exiftool hasn't found it yet or Canon isn't storing this info (which would be strange since they record a zillion other bits).

Sorry!
