I select some photos, bring up Image > Structured Keyword Panel.
find kw; add path, apply path to selected
SUPRISE
kw is entered into Description/Caption
???
Expecting it entered into kw area.

Sounds like you have set the "Apply to:" popup menu to "Caption" instead of "Keywords".  Check your settings in the Structured Keywords Panel.
