Rebuild Mac with PM6
(1/1)
PaulSteunebrink:
Sorry if this is covered before. Could not find it.
I plan to rebuild my MacBook Pro and I like to preserve the PM preference settings, and all data in the Metadata (IPTC) Template (Captions, Cities, Countries, Headlines, Keywords, Locations, Provinces).
I understand that I could copy over this folder:
~/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic
and this file:
~/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic.plist
Will that cover my requirements?
Or is it better to export my preference settings into a .pmx file, and the items in the Metadata Template into their respective .txt files?
Appreciate your assistance.
ahoward:
Just export your preferences and make sure to select all, and then Import them to the new computer. No need to generate any text files.
PaulSteunebrink:
Thank you, that is really helpful, ahoward. I was aware of the preferences export, but not that it includes the IPTC settings.
What seems to be missing are the GPS Coordinate snapshots in the preferences export. Could you perhaps comment on that?

I am able to replicate this, seems like something that will need to be fixed in a future update.
For now, the snapshots you are looking for will be located in this folder:
/Users/<home_folder_name>/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic/GPSCoordinates
So you could just copy that folder to the new computer (or indeed the whole parent folder that you mentioned in the original post, was just hoping to give the easiest option)
PaulSteunebrink:
Thanks again. I indeed copied the GPScoordinates folder that you mentioned.
