the images were all ingested into PM.  That's when I first noticed the dates.  I will be glad to send them to you unaltered, no text or fogging out in Paint.  Let me figure out where to go on the site to do so.  Thanks --marcopolo

Do you have the originals, prior to ingesting?

Here's what it shows on my system, along with the settings I used for the thumbnail titles:

So why are they different?  Because the capture time metadata is either different or malformed among the three images.

Thanks for the example of how to display capture dates in contact sheets.

If the MetadataDate is somehow corrupted is that something I have done?  or is it a glitch that is unavoidable.  Should I expect this to happen very often.

This specific MetadateDate of 2021-04-30 shows up as the capture date in a dozen or two images at the end of many the contact sheets.  After ingesting a group of photos, I change the file names and add the capture year {year4} to the beginning of each files and close the contact sheet.

The next time I open the contact sheet a few or sometime 10 or 20 of the bottom images in the contact sheet now have the capture date as 2021-04-30.  I can tell the capture date has changed by the name of the file:  the inirtail capture year begins the file names, but the capture date is Apr 30, 2021.

Do you have any suggestions?  There must be something I have or am doing.  Thanks.  --marcopolo

I don't have any suggestions for you at this time.  I will have Dennis take a look at the images and see if he has any suggestions.  My initial thinking is that the images that exhibit the incorrect date have more APP markers in them than the images that show the correct date s and there may be something malformed about them.

Thanks for all your time looking into this.

I plan to continue to add the capture year to the file name as soon as the year is definite just to keep that sacred.  The other thing I have learned is to always use the Absolute Date with dating the scanned images.

You've been a big help.  --marcopolo

If you have a group of photos that you want to all have the same date and time, you definitely should use absolute instead of relative.  Relative adjustments are great for a sequence of photos that are all off by the same amount of time.

I think I finally understand the need for the relative and absolute date/time adjustments.  Have started using it when a group of scanned images needs their date adjusted by the same length of time.  It is a genius method for event-type photography.

As an aside, I have tried using EXIF Date Changer for some files because the software allows the date/time on a group of images to be adjusted with a few seconds to some number of days between each of the pictures.  It's not for huge batches but I am only doing several dozen at a time and it's great.  Thanks  --marcopolo
