Windows Photo App as a "Custom Editor"
« on: May 25, 2022, 08:11:15 AM »
Hello,

I'm probably missing something, but is there a way to assign the internal Windows Photo App as a "Custom Editor"?
The app itself is located in the protected system folder Windows Apps, whose access is restricted to standard users.
An app link (.Ink) that simply points to the program is unfortunately not recognized (only .exe is accepted).

Thanks
Thomas

Good question.  I found this thread that discusses this MS issue about them not providing a reliable path to the executable.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-photos-application-path-for-external/183c8ef3-e603-445a-8b94-9a1834293523

The answer referred to a How-To article showing how to make Windows Photo app a default editor on your system (I suspect this is not what you would want). If you do, the article is here:
https://www.howtogeek.com/225844/how-to-make-windows-photo-viewer-your-default-image-viewer-on-windows-10/

And I noted this:  "Photo Viewer is actually part of a DLL file named “PhotoViewer.dll” and doesn’t have a separate executable file associated with it."

So you may be out of luck, unfortunately.
