Canon D1 RAW previews

I'll preface this with the note that I know there has been info on this since the Beta ad-nauseum.
However, I'm still experiencing great difficulty with viewing D1 RAW images (TIF).  I still only get a 288x192 preview with 4.4.3.  So, enlarged in previewthey're pretty chunky looking.  In addition, using <Preferences/Render RAW for Preview if possible> offers no improvement at all.
Several folks have commented favorably on speed, but its taking over 30 seconds (usually more) to render even the smallest, blockiest previews.
Is there some other setting/preference I need to employ?
I'm using Mac G5 Duo, 2GB RAM.  PM Cache set to 512MB across the board.
Thanks, Bill

What OS version are you running?

bsnead:
OSX 10.4.6

If a capture of the preview window would help, I could send that along.

Instead of that how about a screen capture of the Preview tab of the Preferences dialog?  Use Command-Shift-4 and crop-grab the image and post it here by using the "Additional Options..." link when you compose your reply.

BTW, I have tried both Canon 1D and 1Ds RAW-TIFFs and both render just fine and fairly quickly (1D is especially quick to render being only 4MP.)
