Stationary Pad "+" boxes

I have a feeling this one's staring me in the face and I still don't get it. Next to Keywords, Captions and Caption Writers is a "+" box. What's it's purpose?

If you tick that box, any text entered in that field will be added to what's already there when you Apply Stationery, rather than replacing it.
