Icelandic letters incorrect in IPTC info
« on: May 29, 2007, 03:48:46 PM »
I see that the Icelandic letters do not come right in the IPTC info field. I attached the IPTC as it came from a Fotostation/PC and also how it should be.

Are Icelandic letters not supported? Or maybe not from other apps.

--This is from FS photo file:
LANDSBANKADEILD KARLA

¡T

ÕA - FH

This is how it should be:
LANDSBANKADEILD KARLA
ÍA - FH
2-3
---
ÁT

ÍA - FH

Any thoughts?

You need to change the Default IPTC Encoding from Mac Roman to something more appropriate to your language.  Open the Preferences dialog, click on the IPTC/XMP tab and change the "Default IPTC Encoding:" popup menu from Mac Roman to Mac Icelandic.  Then give it a try.  If that doesn't work, experiment with the encodings, or use Unicode as your encoding.

Latin10Scandenavian seems to be doing the trick.

Are you working with already captioned images?
What OS are you running?
What character encoding do the other people you work with use?
What does it mean when you say "some of the pictures are correct if I sen 9 images 3 fail"?  What is the method by which you are sending images?

Prior to the 4.5 version the encoding was always Mac Roman.  If older versions of PM worked properly for you before, then you should set the encoding in 4.5.x to Mac Roman and turn off the Write IPTC as Unicode checkbox.

Sure.  Contact me directly by clicking on my name to the left of this message and then use the Personal Message link.  I will send you server upload information.

My default IPTC encoding is Mac Roman.  Write as Unicode is turned off.

I opened up your files.  I see where the ö and Ö are coming out incorrect.  I changed the characters back to ö and Ö where necessary and saved the changes.  I then reopened the IPTC Info on the file and it was still correct.

How is it that you are getting the incorrect characters to occur?

Are you applying an IPTC Stationery Pad during the upload?

OK, so if you were to apply that same IPTC Stationery Pad to images in the Contact Sheet window, would their characters come out OK?  Do those fields look OK in the IPTC Stationery Pad dialog itself?
