.pmarrangement.dat file
« on: June 06, 2007, 06:59:41 AM »
A quick question: (windows xp)
After closing PM, a small file- .pmarrangement.dat remains on my desktop.
I guess I can live with this file, ...but
Do I need this file? Can I delete it? Can I set PM not to produce this file, and why does it always appear on my desktop?
many thanks,  nati  :)

You browsed your Desktop.  PM created an arrangement file.  You can delete it if you want to.  I plan to make the next update not create that file unless you actually rearranged your photos.

Another vote for not creating the .pmarrangement.dat when it is not necessary!

The ".pmarrangement.dat" is a problem for my Mac. I can not see the file, but it is there. When I upload files to my FTP server the ".pmarrangement.dat" travels along and is causing problems when I batch-add files to my website. How can I get rid of the ".pmarrangement.dat" file when I can not see it?

Thanks, Paul

The Finder hides files that start with a period.  PM 4.5.2 should not create the arrangement files unless you rearrange your images.  There are several ways you can delete those files with various utility programs and also likely with Automator or AppleScript.

Don't you have the same issue with the .DS_Store files?
And why does your FTP Client upload every file in a folder?  Doesn't it at least have some way to exclude certain files?
What FTP Client are you using?

Thanks for the info.
I'm using Cyberduck.
I know that PM will ftp, but I have not tried it.

Paul,

I'm using Cyberduck.

I downloaded and had a look at Cyberduck.  It has pattern matching for filtering out certain files.  The default is:

.*~\..*|\.DS_Store|.*\.svn|CVS

If you made it look like this instead then you wouldn't upload any more arrangement files:

.*~\..*|\.DS_Store|\.pmarrangement.dat|.*\.svn|CVS

You can set this in the Advanced tab of the Transfers section of the Preferences dialog in Cyberduck.

HTH,
