Slow Loading in Intel Mac

Running 4.5.11 on Apple Mac Intel 2.33Ghz Dual Core, 2Gb ram

have noticed program very slow in loading images from Lexar 133x CF cards via firewire reader,
any work round of have i wrongly set the preferences? if i close the window and reopen, it loads quickly? just a bit awkward

It is likely that the reason it is faster the second time is because PM has cached the thumbnails and previews from your files.  But please note, we thoroughly do not recommend browsing/editing on the card.  It is your only copy of your images.  Please use the Ingest feature in PM to download your images first.
