« on: May 27, 2006, 02:40:17 PM »
i would love to have an option to display a folder while it is being ingested . im currently forced to transfer images from a card using nikon view , whilst using PM to chose the shots which are sent to photoshop for editing .

Why aren't you using PM to ingest? It can open the contact sheet as it is ingesting, allowing you to work on the images right away.

well , 4.4.3 on windows cant !

i get the error: Unable to open: "O:\DCIM\297NCD2H\" because it is in use by Photo Mechanic.

i need access to the card whilst it is being copied , not to the copied files .

Accessing the card (doing edits) while something else is copying the files is a recipe for disaster.  Either browse the card or download (ingest) the card but not both.

Why would you need to anyway?

OK, but I still don't understand how editing on the card while downloading off the card would help in such a situation.

Puzzled,

its not really editing , just picking of the shots which are sent to photoshop .

and it helps in the way that the cards are ingested in less time , so fresh data can be shot on them

OK, well I don't think you're saving yourself much time since the data rate of cards are quite slow compared to hard drives, and PM allows you to interact with the photos as soon as each one is downloaded.  You do not have to wait until they are all ingested.
