Editing metadata in the Info window of the Preview window
« on: July 14, 2008, 02:50:37 PM »
Is there any way to change both the raw & jpg files when editing metadata (keywords, etc.) in the Info window of the Preview window? We've been editing keywords in this window for well over a year and just found out that it's only editing the metadata in the jpg file. We hate to think about the 1000's of man-hours lost because of this.

What version of Photo Mechanic are you using?  What OS are you running Photo Mechanic on?

In recent versions of Photo Mechanic there is a tool on the Tools menu that will do this in one large batch operation.  It is called "Update IPTC/XMP..." and allows you to update the RAW from the JPEG or update the JPEG from the RAW file.

But you shouldn't need to do this with recent versions of Photo Mechanic.  The metadata is applied equally to both files at the same time.

Just one warning: you need to have the RAW+JPG viewed "combined", not separate, for this to work (at least to my knowledge).  Use CMD/CTRL-J to toggle the combining of RAW+JPG.
