email photos will not send
« on: July 21, 2008, 06:03:39 AM »
I am unable to email photos. I do not get any error messages.

XP Pro sp2
Outlook Express 6
PM 4.5.3.1

PM "Send photo via email"

   PM entries:
Medium jpeg,( Adobe RGB )
convert to sRGB (or unchecked)
enter email address
review email in email app before sending (or unchecked)
with and without entries in subject and/or body

"send"
email preview appears with attachment.
"send"

Does not send and no error messages.

When I use ViewNX to send thru email I get a dialog box saying the email will be put in the"outbox" and it works correctly.
I don't get this with PM.

Thanks,
Jim J

Hi Jim,

Try doing the steps below to fix the issue.

From within Outlook Express:

  • Go to the Tools Menu, choose Options.
  • Choose the General Tab.
  • Down at the bottom there is a section marked 'Default Messaging Programs'. Click on the button marked 'Make Default'. If this button is 'dimmed' the Outlook Express is already your default mail program.

Close Photo Mechanic and Outlook.

Click on Start at the lower left of your Desktop, select RUN, then type FIXMAPI and click on OK. It will probably run quickly and may not produce any visible results.

Restart your computer, then run Photo Mechanic and send a file via email to see if the problem is resolved.

Kind regards,
Jerry

Jerry,

I tried what you suggested but it still doesn't work.
Don't know if this helps but I tried using Faststone Image Viewer to send by email (MAPI) and it worked as did Nikon View. Both those programs say that the email will be put it the "outbox".
Any other ideas?

If you're still having trouble with Outlook Express 6,  then I recommend that you use Windows Live Mail instead of Outlook: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

After installing Windows Live Mail you will need to make it the new default application:

  • Go into the Start menu and choose 'Set Program Access and Defaults'.
  • Select the Custom radio button then click on the down arrow to the right.
  • Under 'Choose a default e-mail program:' click on the radio button for Windows Live Mail.
  • Click OK and restart your computer.

I Think you'll find that Windows Live Mail will work much better for you. I hope this helps.

Jerry,

Thanks for the quick replies.
I discovered what was causing the email not to send. I had another email identity setup and PM was selecting it instead of the active identity. My other programs that email photos select the active identity. Not really a problem for me since I wasn't using the other identities I deleted them and it works fine now.

Thanks,
Jim J
