I changed the keywords on a file via photomechanic's Structured Keywords Panel. I UNCHECKED the append box, as I wanted to make sure that I completely replaced the keywords.

My PM preferences for jpeg, tiff, psd, dng (it was a jpg file) indicate to "Update both embedded IPTC and IPTC4XMP". There is no XMP file in the directory.

I noticed that my Apple Finder smart folder refused to update it's results. I did a Get Info in the finder, and still saw the OLD keywords. Then I looked a the file in Nikon Capture NX2 and also saw the OLD keywords.

The capture NX manual uses the term XMP/IPTC info, but doesn't say much else about what standard it adheres to.

Is there an explanation for this?

Does Photo Mechanic show the updated keyword list?

Yes, PM does show the updated list. It looks fine. I meant to write that above.

This isn't turning out to be so consistent to reproduce. It's happened several times, but not with consistency. I'll keep working on it.

I only need one example (it can be from a few days ago.)

Problem is that when I discovered the first case, I then changed it using capture NX, so I feared that I'd complicated/corrupted the file, at least from a debugging standpoint. I'll send that one anyway when I get home from work tonight.
