PM 4.6 beta SFTP will not connect

I'm using the Mac version on a Mac Pro and OS 10.5.6.  I cannot send by SFTP using the same settings that I use with Fetch and Transmit.  I get the error message " [error: Could not create directory /gjohnson. Do you have the correct permissions?] ".  The destination folder already exists, and I can normally create new folders with no problem.
