Odd behavior with ingest dialog
« on: February 18, 2009, 07:27:39 AM »
Hi.  I am having an issue with the ingest dialog.  Over the course of a shoot I'll download about 10 - 20 cards.  At the start of the day the ingest dialog pops up very quickly.  As the day progresses the ingest dialog takes much longer to open (in the order of 10 - 20 seconds).  Is there something I can do to remedy this?  I know of one other photographer who is reporting the same problem.

Here is my setup:
Macbook Pro 2.6Ghz w 4 gigs RAM
Leopard 10.5.6
Photo Mechanic 4.5.4
Sandisk Extreme IV Cards (2 & 4 gig)
5D Mark II
1D Mark III

I will download cards from both the 5D and 1D throughout the day.

Thanks
-J

Does the number of available disks to Ingest from increase over time?
If you quit PM and start it up again, is it quicker to bring up the Ingest dialog?

It happens if I use several different cards (4 - 6) and if I am only using 2 cards.  Quitting and restarting Photo Mechanic does not seem to fix the problem.

Thanks

Basically, Ingest is scanning for available drives when the dialog opens.  So if more drives are available, then there is more to scan.  Are you perhaps mounting an external drive at some point?

I mount an external drive at the start of the job and leave it connected all day.
