4.6 Final - Smugmug Uploader????
« on: February 27, 2009, 07:24:05 AM »
Kirk - What happened? Final release - (I'm on a trial now - I need to renew) But I still can't create folders to upload to and it still take over 1 minute per image to upload 5-600k files.

Thanks

We weren't able to add the ability to create folders.  The API proved much more unwieldy than expected.

As for your upload speed, we do not get the same slow speeds on any of our systems as you get.  We'll have to work together to solve that problem.

Kirk - Will we be able to create folders? any Idea When?
I also use Photoshelter - that upload takes about 2 minutes total including file creation.
Both on the same XP Pro system FIOS Access - I believe using SmugMug's IE uploader it took less then a 30 seconds to transfer the same files in my lat attempt.

I have a second & third - machine I can try to upload from latter to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks
Joe

I'm also getting slow upload speeds using the smugmug upload in PM 4.6 on MacOS 10.5.6.  It's not the transfer speed, it's the 'File sent -- waiting for remote acknowledgment' that's making the uploads take twice as long as the MacDaddy smugmug upload. Each 'remote acknowledgment' takes about the same time as the actual upload (for 5-8MB JPGs).

When I try to upload to smugmug I don't get that far. I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out.
I get the message "Unable to upload because: No Gallery selected for upload" Any ideas on what I am missing?
Thanks

Did you select a gallery?  You may not be seeing the user interface elements since they may be scrolled off the bottom of the Upload window.  Either resize the Upload window or use the scroll bar on the right side of the window to reveal those settings.

Ok...now I'm embarrassed...I resized the window and I can now see the option for gallery.

It will not let me select a Gallery, like there is none. I verified in smug that I set up a gallery.

I don't know if this is relevant but the "Opening connection..." does not change.
Thanks

Are you sure you entered your account settings correctly?

Here's what the smugmug upload looks like for me when comparing PM 4.6 to MacDaddy. First graphic is PM, 2nd is MadDaddy. It's a pretty dramatic difference. The 'valley' in the PM graph is when PM is telling me it's 'waiting for remote acknowledgment.'

You should be entering the email account that you have registered with SmugMug and your password.  The URLs you tried to enter definitely won't work.

I looked into this further with the engineer that is working on the Uploader templates.  We are basically waiting until SmugMug responds back to us that our upload was received.  The delay is on SmugMug's end.  Your graph shows that we're sitting idle during this time.

One way we could improve this would to be to start another file uploading while we wait for the acknowledgment.  Why SmugMug is taking so long to respond is unknown to us but it may have something to do with how busy their servers are.

I thought SmugMugs service only sucked on our end - I've been trying to move from photoshelter to SmugMug. Waiting for this uploader to work and hope a few other things would get fixed in the mean time. But I've gotten nowhere with them - GOOD LUCK.

Actually the Smugmug uploader is working very well for me and the photos seem to upload as quickly as the other Smugmug uploaders I've used. Smugmug usually responds to customer's problems very quickly.  For those having problems you might want to post your questions on their forums here:  http://www.dgrin.com/
