I can see this can be handy for a lot of people. Perhaps this could be implemented quite easily, perhaps even with a preference specifying the save-as/convert to colour space to even allow for other colour spaces?

Cheers!

This would be very useful - my printing service requires conversion to their specific colour space and if PM could do this while saving to the correct size and everything else it would be great.

Just shoot in AdobeRGB. If needed convert it to sRGB  8)

Shoot in RAW and let your RAW converter set the color space.

Photo Mechanic isn't an editor or converter. Isn't converting color space best left to an editor? Or am I missing something here?

You are indeed missing something here  ;)
One of PM's functions is "publishing" files. In this it is offering a conversion to sRGB which is excellent as that is the best colour space for the web. Sometimes, however, one needs to send in aRGB (or perhaps even another colour space), hence this request.

Hayo,

Sure, but when you convert color space, don't you need to look at the image to make sure their has not been a color shift that negatively affects the look of the image? I know the goal of relative colorimetry, if that is what you would have Photo Mechanic do, is to minimize that. But don't you still want to look first?

Scott, of course if it were for a top quality conversion, I would perform the conversion manually in e.g. Photoshop. But for bulk conversions and web publication where quality is of lesser concern, I would like (and do) use PhotoMechanic's ability to perform the conversion quicker and easier. Currently you can either choose no colour space conversion or a conversion to sRGB (which is excellent for web), but not e.g., aRGB. There's definitely a benefit to be able to convert to aRGB too (and perhaps other colour spaces as well).

Anyway, for me this is not a very important feature (so far I've very well been able to live without it), but perhaps it is not too difficult to implement and would therefore be a good candidate addition...

Cheers,
