4.6.1 Color Class with Lightroom 2.3
« on: March 25, 2009, 02:41:33 AM »
hi,

despite I  saw a lot of topics realating this issue, but mostly with NX2..

I tryd a lot of things, but it seems that on my system the color class between PM and LR it not working.

the star-rating gets imported/exported in both apps correct and immedetely

(after "save metadata" in LR (LR->PM), and after "syncr. folder" (PM->LR))

problem:

* it doesnt matter which color I set in PM, in LR its always white.
* changing color in LR (and then "save metadata" in LR) did not change anything in PM.

I guess there are different color classes (5 and 8 ..) , maybe this is the problem here?

my setup:

vista 64, latest PM 4.6.1
using the latest version of PM on win10

Brendan,

To make the colors from Lightroom to PM match, the name of the colors must match lightroom color names.

What is likely throwing things off are that you're embedding IPTC4XMP into your RAW files and Adobe's products don't work well with that.  Turn off that setting.  Also, your Color Class names in PM must be spelled the same as Lightroom's labels.  It is also useful to use the same colors for the same names as well though the color values are not written into the metadata.  Lastly, now that your RAW files have IPTX4XMP written into them, you're going to want to remove it.  You can do that with the "Revert TIFF-based RAW to original" command on the Tools menu.

Then things should start synchronizing between the two applications.

Brendan, if lightroom uses the word RED then PM must use the same spelling. It is the word not the number that is needed to sync colors between PM and lightroom.

so, the number 6 in LR is number 1 in PM ???

edit: seems it is working, expect the following:

remove color in LR, does not apply in PM. but changing to another works   ???

can somebody please post screenshots of a working setup

- PM preferences: General, Files, IPTC/XMP

- LR: Catalog prefs -> Metadata
Metadata -> color settings (or similar)

I use Nikon RAW.

Brendan,

Let me start by first asking a couple of questions regarding those 1800 images:
1. Are you talking about NEF files here, or JPGs?
2. Have you set up the Colour Class names exactly the same in both PM and LR?
3. What is PM's read preference for IPTC/XMP? (Preferences, IPTC/XMP, "When reading IPTC/XMP")
4. Where do you have PM store your IPTC/XMP metadata? (Preferences, IPTC/XMP, "When writing IPTC/XMP")
5. Is lightroom updating the IPTX/XMP info to the .xmp sidecar files, or are they kept within its database?

For 1 I am assuming NEF. 2 should be YES. 3 should be something like "XMP sidecar", "Embedded XMP", "Embedded IPTC" for the TIFF based raw files. 4 the advised setting in your case is that all options are disabled for the TIFF based raw files (if you want, you can have the "Don't update even if exists" option turned-on in this case, though I do not really recommend this). 5 LR should be set to update the .xmp sidecar files, not only keep the info in its database.

With above settings all should be working. If not, please elaborate as to what is going wrong AND upload an example (raw file+.xmp sidecar file) as well as a screenshot of your PM XMP settings.

Hope this helps,

hey hayo, thanks for your detailled reply!

4 the advised setting in your case is that all options are disabled for the TIFF based raw files (if you want, you can have the "Don't update even if exists" option turned-on in this case, though I do not really recommend this).

its all like you recommended expect this... what should I do now, can I remove IPTC data without destroying the star-rating?

about 85 % raw files and the  rest JPG
so I need a setup which is good for both file types

You can use the Revert TIFF-based RAW to original command on the Tools menu to remove any embedded metadata, and put it into XMP sidecar files.

The settings you have for JPEGs, TIFFs, PSDs, and DNGs are fine.

Brendan, Here is my setup. Hope this helps you out. Sorry for the delay.
your setup seems to be not the same as hayo says . special the number 4 . "for tiff-based raw" every setting should be disabled , or "dont update... " enabled.
