Rotate crop via keyboard
« on: March 27, 2009, 09:46:54 AM »
I don't believe there is a way to rotate the crop (i.e. switch the crop dimensions) when in full screen preview mode (the button that does this is not visible in full screen mode), so it would be nice to have a keyboard shortcut to accomplish this rather than being forced to restore the panes.

Deven,

That keyboard shortcut already exists: it's the [ and ] keys…

Hayo,

I must not have been clear.  The keys you mention rotate the entire image.  I just want to rotate the crop.

Deven,

Now you've got me completely puzzled. There is no "rotate crop" function that I know off, only a button to switch the Width and Height crop constraints and this one does not really rotate the crop. At least not until you alter the crop. Is this perhaps the one you mean? I guess for this button it could be handy to have a separate shortcut key (heck, even if the button is visible, I'd like this now you mention it  ;)).

If this can be added, that would be great! But don't stop there then, and also add one for "Remove Crop" and perhaps even one for the toggle between Normal and Constrained crop  ;D

Cheers,

I like those ideas!  To recap, we'd like keys for:

1. Rotate the crop (like the <--> button)
2. Remove the crop
3. Toggle constrained and unconstrained crop

And this should be in 4.6.1  ;)

What keys should be used to do each of them?  Several keys are already in use.

If not already taken, may I suggest the following:

1. Rotate the crop (like the <--> button)
< or > keys

2. Remove the crop
Shift-X (as opposed to x which enables cropping), or perhaps C (for clear crop)

3. Toggle constrained and unconstrained crop
Perhaps !

Thanks for considering this :)

Not too many character keys left: B, J, K, N, P, & W.

Nor special characters: <, >, ;, ', \, ?, =, & comma.

Here are some options:

Remove crop: K (kill), Ctrl+X

Rotate crop: \, Ctrl+[, <, >

Toggle constrained crop: =

For me, the Rotate Crop key is going to be the most important one.  I don't feel strongly on which key should be used, but I do strongly prefer it to be a one finger keyboard action (e.g. \ is better than Ctrl+[).

I think the rotate (rather it is only swich side ratio) shortcut would be a good idea I second it to be available.

The Clear crop is allready available with a single click outside the crop and since I use mostly laptops I don't die for it and it goes for the constrained/unconstrained switch. I rarely use the later two but let it be if others need them!

But it would be great to add the real rotate crop allowing for staighten and crop images in one step (like crop does in PS, LR or Aperture)
Working on Mac, OSX, iOS and with some Canons.
Allways shooting RAW.
