Closed: Support for .psb format

Currently PhotoMechanic does not support Adobe's large document format (.psb).

As I have created some really big panoramas recently that required the use of .psb, I would like to see this feature implemented. If showing the (thumbnail of the) image is not feasible, I would certainly like to be able to edit the IPTC/XMP and rating/colour class info.

Thanks for considering this.

Can you send me a sample image to test with?

Thanks,

Yes, certainly.  I've uploaded “Large Document Test.psb” to your FTP site.

Note: to keep it small, I've actually saved a blank 100x100 pixel file as .psb in PhotoShop CS4, I have not added any specific IPTC or other file info. If you need more test files, just give me a shout.

Cheers,

I've got your sample.  Unfortunately we cannot render it at this time.  I looked for documentation for the PSB format and it isn't publicly documented anywhere.  Apparently the file format is similar to PSD but various offsets are rumored to be 64-bit instead of 32-bit (though again these are not documented anywhere.)

Darn, that's a pity. Would be nice if Adobe opened up a bit on their formats though :(

Oh, and yes, I guess they use 64 bit pointers as the format is capable of storing very large images (i.e. up to 300,000 pixels in each dimension, which is much bigger than the .psd maximum of 30,000).

Thanks for looking into it,
