PM very slow across XP network.

Hello!

Im running PM on 2 XP machines, with 2GB of memory on both, raws stored on just one.

When I try to open a contact sheet from the computer that is not storing the raw files, PM gets incredibly slow.
If I change applications it takes about 10 secs to PM get back on.

Is it normal?

I have another doubt, but its not related to this topic. Should Iopen a new one?

Unless it is related to this one, yes.

Now back to your original question:

How many files are in the folder you're browsing?
What kind of network do you have, i.e. how fast is it?
What sorting method are you using?  Filename is the fastest, Capture Time is the slowest (along with any custom sorts.)

Basically when you switch back to PM, it scans the folders of each contact sheet tab looking for changes.  Normally this scanning is very fast, though if you've got a slow network, this could take time.

Its a regular cabled XP ethernet, dont know if theres a name for it. Its always pretty fast.

The folder is huge (about 8.000 images), and the sort used is capture time, mixed with some arrangement.

I would say that with 8,000 images in a single Contact Sheet tab with Capture Time sort that 10 seconds would be reasonable for a rescan over a local area network.  You probably have a 10Base-T or 100Base-T network.  Gigabit Ethernet is still fairly expensive but is getting cheaper.
