Searching for Keywords Without Opening Contact Sheet

Can you search through keywords without opening a contact sheet?  Say I want to search through 5000 pictures looking for a picture of my daughter "Sue" with a "horse."  Opening a contact sheet of 5000 pictures takes a long time.  Is there a way to search 5000 files for certain keywords without having to open all the thumbnails first?

What OS are you running?  If you are running Mac OS X 10.4+ then the answer is yes, use the Search panel.  If you're running Windows, then unfortunately the answer is no for the time being.

So you use both Photo Mechanic and Picasa?  Is Picasa useful for anything other than searching?  Do the programs work well together?

Picasa is a Photo do everything program - well writen form what I've seen. But I only use it for finding my keyworded images that I caption & keyword 95% in PM. I have 200,000 images with a small percentage keyworded ( I only keywork the selects) images on a network. Picasa finds images instantly. I'm not sure if it searches all IPTC fields but I've tested a few and it indexes the all the ones I've tested.

Since yesterday, I work with Picasa3 on mac. It is exactly what I need since IviewMediaPro is lost for Mac ( I not enjoy Expression Media !).
No problem for me with category and keyword.

I think there is a lot of treasures in this forum, I just have to make my english better !
