Color Space?
« on: December 04, 2009, 10:28:04 AM »
Is there a way to set PM to read different color spaces?
Right now I am getting images form a client in ProPhoto and the colors are way off, even when I save and convert I get the "off" colors.
Right now I am having to open in CS4 or NX2, convert, re-save and then use PM to do what I need.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Are the colors in the PM-saved images "off" in other applications besides Photo Mechanic?

First, I did activate color management and I did get a noticable differance, but when I save the images and tell PM to save as sRGB even the sRGB images are slightly different?

ProPhoto has a very large gamut compared to sRGB.  Clipping will occur.

I can confirm that converting from ProPhoto to sRGB really can noticeably alter the appearance of your files because of this gamut problem. On a cheap (sRGB colour space) monitor you probably won't notice this, but on a wide gamut monitor you definitely will (especially in the reds). If you can help it, don't convert  ;)

Hope this explains things a bit,
