thesaurus and french letters
« on: February 21, 2010, 10:49:04 PM »
When I save in PM and open the result with an editor I obtain something like that :

divers
   autres
   batiments
   d√©tails        I whish "détails"
   expo
   gens
   reportage
   s√©lection     I wish "sélection"

When imported in AtomicView, all is fine with french accentued letters.

Is it possible have directly "détails" and not "d√©tails"
Thanks

Sure.  Use XMP instead of IPTC, or force your IPTC to write in Unicode.

I want no XMP.
IPTC are well, only thesaurus exported is bad.

Another point : I put for example famille | durand in keyword. I do that with Structured Keywords Panel, I don't write by myself, PM write itselft. when opening my IPTC with Atomic View, I obtain sometimes i]famille | durand [/i] and sometimes i]famille|durand [/i] without blanks.
I must use synonyme for properly work.
 Why this inconstance ?

Thanks.

Maybe I'm not understanding the issue completely.  What 'thesarus' are you speaking of?  Photo Mechanic does not have a thesaurus.

If you don't want to preserve the path of your Structured Keywords, you can turn it off.  Then you'll just get a simple list of keywords like: famille, durand

I know nothing about Atomic View and have never used that software so I do not know what it does with IPTC information.

If you don't want to use XMP then at the very least, you're going to have to find out what character encoding Atomic View is using and force PM to use that same encoding when reading and writing IPTC.

XMP is the future of metadata.  I strongly suggest that you adopt it in your workflow.  IPTC is no longer being updated by the IPTC folks and no new fields are going to be added to it in the future.

1) I exported Thesaurus from PM and imported it in AtomicView. All was OK, just surprised by d√©tails in the thesaurus open with Texedit. No matter, AV read "détails" and work is fine. I forget it.

2) for the differences "famille | durand"  and  "famille|durand" you seem think that AV read bad, but are you certain that PM write fine ?

Thanks.

Honestly, I don't know.  You haven't given me enough information to go on and figure out what may be going wrong.

I'm still puzzled by what you mean by a Thesaurus and exporting it from PM.

Yes the thesaurus is the file result of "save" in the structured keywords panel.
