disapeering navigation

Version 4.6.3 using Mac 10.5.8
Hello,
Suddenly the left side of the new window where the navigation part is has disapeered. Did I do something stupid or is there a problem ?

You likely just hid it.  On the left-hand edge of the window should be a thin medium gray vertical bar.  If you click and drag that bar to the right a bit, you'll see the hidden components.  You can also double-click on the vertical bar and the Navigator and Favorites should reappear.
