Hi Folks,
I would appreciate any help with the following query.
I note that when I add a 'star' rating in Photomechanic to any DNG file that I had previously 'developed' in Lightroom, when I subsequently update the metadata in Lightroom, any crop that had been added in Lightroom is 'removed'.
I was careful to ensure the original  DNG filehad been updated in Lightroom to ensure the jpg 'contained' in the DNG file reflected any development changes made to the file in Lightroom.
I am also confident that I have the correct 'settings' to allow metadata to travel appropriately in either direction between Lightroom and Photomechanic.
I would appreciate any thoughts (or solutions' to this problem.
Thanks in anticipation

Kirk,
As requested, I have attempted to clarify and provide more detail on the issue I am experiencing

I am running Photo Mechanic version 5, build 13915 (a16ea99), on Windows 7x64, with LR5.0. (The problem also appeared with LR4)

The issue concerns the 'loss' of cropping information added in LR5, subsequent to the addition of a star rating in PM5

The workflow steps leading to the 'problem' are as follows

LR5
1. DNG file is cropped/rotated (along with other modifications)  in LR5
2. Metadata is saved to file in LR5
3. DNG Preview is updated in LR5

PM5
4. DNG has a star rating applied in PM5
5. Metadata changes are 'read from file' by LR5

The result is that the crop/rotate has been removed but he other modifications are intact

Image 1 is an export of the original DNG file from LR5 before any adjustments are made
Image 2 is a jpeg extracted from PM5's 'view' of the original DNG file
Image 3 is an export from LR5 of the modified DNG
Image 4 is a jpeg extracted from PM5's 'view' of the modified DNG
Image 5 is an export of the DNG from LR5 following 'read metadata' from file: *crop/rotate has been 'reset'*
Image 6 is a jpeg extracted from PM5's view of the 'updated' DNG with star rating applied
Image 7 is a 'snapshot' of my current PM5 IPTC/XMP settings.

I hope I have included sufficient information for your comments on this issue,

Stephen

Image 7 was missing from your message.  I'd like to see it and the DNG in step 3 and the DNG in step 4.  It is likely that your DNG files will exceed the size that our forum will allow to be uploaded.  So if you can put them somewhere else and provide me a link so I can download them, then that would work, or I can give you login information for our FTP server and you can upload your images there.

Please let me know how you'd like to proceed.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Hello Kirk,
Thank you for the speedy reply.
I have attached 'Image 7' as requested. Sorry for the confusion.

I am not exactly sure where I could 'place' the DNG files for you to download.
I think the simplest option would be for me to 'ftp' the files to you.
Thanks you again for your consideration of this issue

Stephen,

After trying to reproduce this problem on my Mac and having no success (i.e. the crop always remained after star rating in PM), I realized that this is an issue with "renderability" of the RAW (DNG) file.

On Mac we utilize Apple's built-in ImageIO to render RAW files that are supported (including DNGs).  On Windows, RAW files are not "renderable" in PM. As it turns out, when we update the XMP for things like IPTC or star rating, PM is wrongly considering this "can render" ability when it updates the crops in the XMP and this is causing the crop to disappear.  This issue would affect Windows users and also Mac users when their particular MacOS X version doesn't support (via ImageIO) a camera that was released after their "update period" for MacOS X regarding RAW camera support.  Very complicated to explain but this should be an easy fix which I am working on now.

Thanks for your help with this issue.

Regards,

--dennis

Hello Dennis & Kirk,
I was wondering if there had been any 'fix' for the 'disappearing crop' issue.
Any information or updates would be much appreciated,
Regards
Stephen

Stephen,

I was wondering if there had been any 'fix' for the 'disappearing crop' issue.

I believe Dennis did fix the problem and that the fix will appear in the next PM5 build which should arrive in the next few weeks.
