Convert / Insert FileNames to Captions.
« on: November 02, 2010, 09:38:25 AM »
I am running Windows XP and 7 and Photo Mechanic 4.6.6 on trial basis.

I need to convert my FileNames to Captions and/or Titles.

I have named my images to the meaningful idea that I thought appropriate.

However, FaceBook and Orkut and other sites shall read the Caption of the image and not the FileName, when these are uploaded.

I tried using FastView and adding the FileName as visible text is a good work around for what I desire. It does it in an easier fashion than IrfanView. I also tried Filename2Caption

However, it is NOT what is the most desired solution.

I have searched the Internet for a tool, just like the many such tools for Music Files, for all these THOUSANDS of my images but nothing crops up as a near possible, not even the FastView.

"Doing" them manually shall take me ages!

Yours Truly.

Ra.

Addendum : Further clarification.

I wish to embed the FileName in the Image's IPTC information as a "Caption".

To clarify,

   1. my image came from the camera as 100_2010_10_10_1.jpg
   2. I manually renamed it to "My Very Secret Rose garden".
   3. When I upload it, FaceBook, Orkut and other such sites shall call this photo with no name as there is no data in its Caption field.
   4. Had I added the text "My Very Secret Rose garden" as a 'Caption' in Google Picasa or 'Title' in iPhoto or 'Caption' in the IPTC field of IrfanView, FaceBook etc would pick this text and add it in the Name field.
   5. Presently, I shall have to copy each name from my Windows Explorer and paste it in FaceBook/Orkut's image name field.

Select all of your images in the Contact Sheet.
Open the IPTC Stationery Pad.
Put the following in the Caption field:
{filename}
or if you don't want the filename's extension to be included:
{filenamebase}
Then Apply the IPTC Stationery Pad.

Done.

Attached a screenshot with the results

Changed from behind the cam to one who buys images as I started to run. No cam or lens left.
